    Shelley has served as Executive Director at the House since June 1996.  A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, she holds a B.A. in Psychology and a Certificate in Health Care Management from the School of Public Health at UNC-Chapel Hill.  Shelley has served on the Board of the National Association of Hospital Hospitality Houses since 2010.  Shelley says, "Working at the House is a transformative experience.  I cherish every day I have been able to see an entire community of donors and volunteers in action supporting the families who need the House."

  • Nancy Maeder - Director of Operations

    Nancy joined the House in June 2004 and serves as Director of Operations.  She is responsible for handling admission issues and queries.  She enjoys the opportunity to help create a welcoming and caring environment for the children and families who stay at the House and has taken a leadership role in developing the Healing Arts Family Activities program.  Nancy enjoys hiking as well as singing with a local acoustic group, The Road Home Band. 

  • Rachel Knowles - Director of Development

    A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Rachel Knowles has 9 years of non-profit experience with organizations such as Alvin Ailey Dance Foundation and NC TEACH.  She joined the House in November 2010.  Rachel is happy to be back in her hometown after nearly a decade of living in New York City and Paris, France.  She feels lucky to be professionally involved with an organization that provides such vital support to children and their families.

  • Elizabeth Hullender - Director of Special Events and Marketing

    Elizabeth joined the House in December 2008.  She completed her undergraduate studies at UNC-Wilmington in 2003, receiving a B.A. in French and a B.S. in International Business and Marketing.  In 2005 she graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Masters in Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management.  When not planning the many fundraising events to benefit the House, she enjoys reading, traveling and enjoying life with her family and friends.

  • Sarah Hodge - Development Assistant

    Sarah joined the House in April 2011.  Originally from California, Sarah received her B.S. in Biology from the University of California at Santa Barbara.  Having only lived in NC a few years, she is enjoying exploring the area and the rest of the east coast.

  • Cathy Hall - Volunteer Coordinator

    Cathy has been the at the House since March 2007.  She is responsible for coordinating all House volunteers, workgroups, meal groups, and coordinates newsletter production. Cathy graduated from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington with a BSW.  She enjoys traveling with her husband and spending time off with her toddler twins.

  • Jill Wright - Family Room Coordinator

    Jill Wright recently joined the House as Coordinator for the newly opened Ronald McDonald Family Room at NC Children's Hospital.  She comes to the House with six years experience in volunteer coordination and eight years experience in project management.  Jill has a B.A. in Marketing from Georgia Southern College. 

  • Sarah Hill - Office Manager

    Sarah originally came to the House more than 15 years ago as a Weekend Manager.  She has also served as Evening Manager.  Sarah handles donor data entry, assists with the admissions process and making families feel welcome here at the House.  Sarah is a mother, a grandmother, a Therapeutic Parent for troubled youth and an associate minister at her church.

  • Michelle McNeil - Evening Manager

    Michelle and her family were guests of the House from 2005-2006 so the House holds a special place in her heart.  She began volunteering at the House shortly thereafter and, in 2008, she joined the staff.  Michelle and her husband, Ervin, live in the Chapel Hill area with their children, Donyea and Ebone.

  • Sheliah Burnette - Weekend Manager

    Sheliah has been working as a weekend manager since March 2007.  Sheliah has a BA in social work from Meredith College, and a graduate degree in counseling from NCCU. She works full-time at one of Durham's magnet school and LOVES working at the Ronald McDonald House one or two weekends a month.

  • Deb Gerhardt - Weekend Manager

    Deb and her husband Ed have worked at the House as Weekend Managers for more than 22 years.  Deb is a teacher in the Chapel Hill/Carrboro School system.

     

  • Ed Gerhardt - Weekend Manager

    Ed Gerhardt has been with the House for more than 22 years and knows the place like the back of his hand!  He is our resident expert on all things mechanical and electrical.  During his time away from the House, Ed runs his own home inspection business in Chapel Hill, Surelock Homes Inspection.

  • Jennifer Temple - Night Manager

    Jen joined the House in the fall of 2010. 

  • Antoinette Williams - Night Manager

    Antoinette joined  the House in September 2009. She enjoys helping to keep the House clean and safe for the families that stay at the House.  She loves music, traveling and spending time with her family and friends.  She also serves as a foster parent to high-risk youth and above all she enjoys helping people the most.
