• Shelley Day - Executive Director


    Shelley has served as Executive Director at the House since June 1996. A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, she holds a B.A. in Psychology and a Certificate in Health Care Management from the School of Public Health at UNC-Chapel Hill. Shelley served on the Board of the National Association of Hospital Hospitality Houses from 2010 to 2012. Shelley says, "Working at the House is a transformative experience. I cherish every day I have been able to see an entire community of donors and volunteers in action supporting the families who need the House."

  • Nancy Maeder

    Nancy Maeder - Sr. Director of Programs and Operations


    Nancy joined the House in June 2004, and serves as the Sr. Director of Programs and Operations. She is grateful for the opportunity to be part of the caring and supportive environment that the House provides for families and children. In her spare time she enjoys music and spending time outside.

  • George Marut - Sr. Director of Development


    George Marut joined the House in March 2014. Prior to his position here, George served as Major Gifts Officer for the American Red Cross. George lives in Wake Forest with his wife and two children. In his spare time, George is a triathlete who enjoys competing in Ironman events.

  • Cathy Hall

    Cathy Hall - Director of Volunteer Services


    Cathy has been with the House since March of 2007. Graduating from UNCW with a B.S.W. she has always had a passion for working with families. She is thankful for the opportunity to oversee the volunteer programs at the House and to build ways for the community to actively support the many families we serve. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her family, playing board games and finding any chance to go to the beach. 

  • Elizabeth Hullender

    Elizabeth Hullender - Director of Special Events


    Elizabeth joined the House in December 2008. She completed her undergraduate studies at UNC-Wilmington in 2003, receiving a B.A. in French and a B.S. in International Business and Marketing. In 2005 she graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Masters in Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management. When not planning the many fundraising events to benefit the House, she enjoys reading, traveling and enjoying life with her family and friends.

  • Sarah Hill

    Sarah Hill - Office Manager


    Sarah originally came to the House more than 15 years ago as a Weekend Manager. She has also served as Evening Manager. Sarah handles donor data entry, assists with the admissions process and making families feel welcome here at the House. Sarah is a mother, a grandmother, a Therapeutic Parent for troubled youth and an associate minister at her church.

  • Marcia Kessinger

    Marcia Kessinger- Volunteer Coordinator


    Marcia Kessinger joined the House as Coordinator for the Ronald McDonald Family Room at N.C. Children's Hospital in 2012. A native Floridian, Marcia and her family have enjoyed calling North Carolina home since 1994. A graduate of Concord University with degrees in Social Work and Psychology, Marcia is happy to return to her roots by managing the Family Room and volunteer groups for the House.

  • Chase McBride - Marketing and Communications Associate


    Chase joined the House in June 2013 after graduating from UNC Charlotte with a B.A. in public relations and journalism. She has a passion for events, PR and nonprofit work and is thrilled to be able to combine them all in one position. She has lived in Chapel Hill for more than 10 years.

  • Michelle McNeil

    Michelle McNeil - Evening Manager


    Michelle and her family were guests of the House from 2005-2006 so the House holds a special place in her heart. She began volunteering at the House shortly thereafter and, in 2008, she joined the staff. Michelle and her husband, Ervin, live in the Chapel Hill area with their children, Donyea and Ebone.

  • Antoinette Williams

    Antoinette Williams - Night Manager


    Antoinette joined  the House in September 2009. She enjoys helping to keep the House clean and safe for the families that stay at the House.  She loves music, traveling and spending time with her family and friends.  She also serves as a foster parent to high-risk youth and above all she enjoys helping people the most. 

  • Deb Gerhardt

    Deb Gerhardt - Weekend Manager


    Deb and her husband Ed have worked at the House as Weekend Managers for more than 22 years.  Deb is a teacher in the Chapel Hill/Carrboro School system.

  • Ed Gerhardt - Weekend Manager


    Ed Gerhardt has been with the House for more than 26 years and knows the place like the back of his hand! He is our resident expert on all things mechanical and electrical. Ed retired in 2009 from his home inspection business, Surelock Homes, Inc., in Chapel Hill. Since he retired he now has the time to volunteer at UNC Hospital with his Therapy Dog Holly. Ed's "retirement fun job" is an event staff supervisor at the DPAC. Now Ed looks forward to the new expansion and all the changes it will bring.

  • Stacey Moore

    Stacey Moore - Weekend Manager


    Stacey first came to the House as a volunteer in the Spring of 2009. She values her time as a volunteer, because like all of the staff, she realizes that the volunteers are truly "the heartbeat of the House." She joined the staff as a weekend manager in June 2012.

  • Leanna Hyacinth

    Leeanna Hyacinth - Weekend Manager


    Leeanna has been a House Volunteer since June 2013 and joined the Staff in July 2014. Leeanna grew up in the Caribbean and, in addition to volunteering, enjoys murder mysteries, pasta, and has a passion for teaching.
