Development Assistant

Full-time (40 hours/week)

Occasional nights and weekends

Start date: Immediately

The Ronald McDonald House of Chapel Hill seeks a detail-oriented Development Assistant to support the Sr. Director of Development in meeting annual and capital campaign goals. The Development Assistant will be responsible for managing our donor database, overseeing annual fund and capital campaign mailings/acknowledgements, providing capital campaign logistical and administrative support, grant writing and reporting, prospect research, and cultivation event planning and support.


Gift Processing and Database Management:

  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate donor records
  • Process and record contributions and donor acknowledgements in a timely manner
  • Run reports for Executive Director and Sr. Director of Development
  • Coordinate team of volunteers who assist with data entry
  • Ensure all database users comply with best practices


Capital Campaign Administrative Support:

  • Prepare campaign materials and correspondence
  • Track pledges and gifts, including: maintaining donor files and sending payment reminder letters
  • Conduct in-depth prospect research on individual, corporate, and foundation donors
  • support cultivation events, including preparing guest lists, invitations, and catering arrangements


Grant Writing and Research:

  • Draft and submit proposals for corporate and foundation grants
  • Mine donor lists and publications for potential new funders; conduct research to help determine approach and ask for annual fund, major donor program, and planned giving program


Special Projects:

  • Assist in development and implementing major donor program and planned giving program
  • Day of support for fundraising and cultivation events



  • Bachelor’s degree or minimum of 2 years of administrative office experience required
  • Experience with databases required; knowledge of eTapestry or Raiser’s Edge strongly preferred


  • Proficiency in Office, database software, email, and internet research
  • Detail oriented, with ability to accurately proofread documents
  • Ability to prioritize, actively seek input, and problem solve
  • Self-started with ability to successfully multi-task and manage deadlines
  • Ability to adhere to the House’s professional standards and core values
